Optical Quality If you put much effort into building your own telescope nothing is as important as the certainty that the optics of your telescope are very good. Only then will you have a satisfying overall result.

All of our mirrors have a very high optical standard. The most important factor in choosing the mirrors was that their quality is very constant, you do not need to fear to get a "lemon". All mirrors are at least diffraction limited, typically much better than that.

Our TS primary mirrors offer an excellent value for money.

 TS Parabolical Primary Mirrors

Our TS primary mirrors were chosen because of their excellent value for money. The optical quality is constantly at a very high level. You need not fear to get a "lemon"!

We offer the same optical quality in mirrors using four different mirror substrates: Float, BK-7, Suprax (similar to Pyrex) and Low Expansion (similar to Zerodur).

All mirrors have an aluminium reflective coating, reflectivity is approximately 90 per cent. The aluminium coating is protected by a properly applied protective coating.

Delivery Time: we usually have all mirrors in stock. Please request the actual delivery time to be sure.

Our TS mirrors have a surface quality of 1/16 wave RMS at the least, typically better.

GSO Secondary Mirror

 TS Elliptical Secondary Mirrors

Our elliptical flats have the same high optical quality of our primary mirrors. Consequently they are a good choice for anyone who wants an excellent value for money in addition to a good quality.

There are two different variants with 90 per cent reflective coating. The mirror substrate itself shouldn't be the sole argument to choose a more expensive mirror, the influence of the substrate on the optical quality is practically zero in small secondary mirrors.

Orion (UK) Primary Mirrors

Orion 350mm parabolic mirror for telescopes

The optical quality of the Orion (UK) mirrors - Made in Europe - is extremely good.

These are the same mirrors that we offer in our TS-Lightweight Newtonians.		 Orion (UK) Parabolical Primary Mirror for Newtonian Telescopes

These mirrors are made by Orion Optics in England. They are truly Made in Europe.

The mirror substrate is Schott Suprax. With their HILUX 96 per cent reflective coating there will be more light entering your eyes, giving overall brighter images.

Suprax is very similar to Pyrex in thermic properties. The cool-down time is only marginally longer than that of Pyrex.

At the same time Suprax is a much longer material. As a consequence mirrors can be made thinner than regular mirrors, drastically reducing cool-down time in the process. Obviously, these mirrors also weigh less than thicker Pyrex mirrors.

You will not need a complicated mirror cell - the mirrors are ideally suited if you want to build a lightweight Newtonian telescope.

Orion secondary mirrors Orion Elliptical Secondary Mirrors

The secondary mirrors have the same high-grade surface quality of the parabolical primaries. Their reflectivity is also 96 per cent (HILUX)

The mirror substrate is plate glass - in such small mirrors the mirror substrate has practically no influence on the performance of the mirror.
